HARROGATE, TENN. – The Coker baseball team dropped the final game of its South Atlantic Conference series, 7-3, to Lincoln Memorial on Sunday (April 6) afternoon.
The Cobras took an early 1-0 lead with an RBI single by Ernie Kirkwood in the first inning. The Railsplitters then evened the score in the bottom of the second. The Navy and Yellow reclaimed the advantage with a pair of runs in the top of the second, thanks to a T.J. Giczkowski RBI and a solo homer from Kirkwood. Unfortunately, that would be the last time Coker would cross the plate as LMU scored three runs in the bottom of the third, one in the fifth, one in the sixth and another in the eighth for a 7-3 victory.
Ben Brown (4-3) suffered the loss on the mound for Coker. He allowed four runs on seven hits in three and a third innings of work.
Kirkwood finished the game 2-for-4 with a home run, a pair of RBIs and a run scored to lead the Cobras at the plate. Giczkowski also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Shea Bell picked up three hits and Evan Rybicki collected two hits.
The Cobras will return home for their next game on Tuesday (April 8) against the Braves of UNC Pembroke. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
