Coker Splits SAC Twinbill with Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, TENN. – The Coker baseball team split its South Atlantic Conference double-header with Tusculum on Sunday (Mar. 30), losing game one 5-1 and winning game two 4-3.

In the first game of day the Cobras struggled to push more than one run across the plate, while Tusculum was able to plate five runs over seven innings.

Alex Hernandez (1-5) took the loss on the mound. He allowed five runs on nine hits with a strikeout in six innings of work.

Sammy Song was the only Cobra to collect multiple hits, going 3-or-3 with an RBI, while Jarren Donato, Chase Spivey, Jack Leech and Shea Bell had a hit each.

In game two the Cobras plated two runs in each of the first two innings, taking a 4-0 advantage. Tusculum answered with a run in the bottom of the second to make it a 4-1 game. The Pioneers plated two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a one run game. The Cobras were able to keep Tusculum off the board for the final two innings and hold on for the 4-3 victory.

Ben Brown (4-2) threw a complete game for the win, allowing three runs on eight hits in seven innings on the hill.

Song, Bell, T.J. Giczkowski and Ernie Kirkwood each drove in a run for the Cobras at the plate. Kirkwood also had a double.

The Cobras will return to the diamond on Tuesday (Apr. 1) for a non-conference game at home against St. Andrews. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Tom J. New Field.
