Kondla's Late-Game Heroics Give Coker 2-1 Win Over Barton

WILSON, N.C. – The Coker baseball team won a 2-1 battle against Barton College on Tuesday (Feb. 25) at Fleming Stadium to improve to 9-3 on the season. The win gives the Navy and Yellow a 2-0 sweep of the season series against the Bulldogs.

Barton would get on the board early as they scored a run in the bottom of the first inning to go up 1-0 over Coker. However, The Cobras would tie the game up 1-1 in the third thanks to two defensive lapses by the Bulldogs. The game would remain knotted up at 1-1 until the top of the seventh inning. Following a pitching change by the Bulldogs, senior Fico Kondla would give the Cobras the lead for good as he blasted a leadoff homer down the left-field line for his only hit of the game. Andrew Goot would come in and close out the game for Coker, picking up his second save of the season.

The Cobras were led offensively by Kondla and Sammy Song. Kondla and Song both went 1-4 on the day, with Kondla tallying one RBI and a run scored.

Forrest Arnold improved to 2-0 on the season after tossing two scoreless innings, giving up no hits and striking out two.

The Navy and Yellow will hit the road for their next contest as they return to the field on Friday (Feb. 28) for the first game of a three-game South Atlantic Conference series against Anderson (S.C.). First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Anderson Memorial Stadium.
