Cobra Baseball Takes Two from Mars Hill

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Cobra baseball team took two from the Mars Hill Lions on Saturday, winning its SAC double-header, 6-4 and 6-2. With the wins Coker improves to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the SAC.

In game one, Matthew Prosser (3-0) picked up his third win of the season. He went seven innings allowing four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Andrew Goot (1) closed out the game with two innings of scoreless and hitless baseball, earning his first save of the season.

Sammy Song and Jarren Donato were the offensive leaders. Both hitters were 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Dustin Russell and Chase Spivey also had two hits and run in a run each. Fico Kondla and Shea Bell also had multiple hits and scored a run each.

The second game of the day saw Coker fall behind 2-0 after the third inning. The Cobras battled back and scored three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to take home the 6-2 victory.

Alex Hernandez (1-2) went the distance on the mound for the win. He allowed two runs on five hits with two strikeouts in seven innings of work.

At the plate, Song drove in two runs, while Kondla had two hits and drove in a run. Ernie Kirkwood also drove in a run and Donato picked up another hit with a run scored.

The Cobras will look to complete the three-game sweep of the Lions with a single, nine-inning game on Sunday (Feb. 23). First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Coker's Tom J. New Field.
