Wingate Earns 10-1 Win Over Coker

WINGATE, N.C. – The Coker baseball team lost a 10-1 SAC competition to Wingate on Friday (Feb. 7) night at Ron Christopher Field. 

The Bulldogs were first to strike sending a run across early in the first inning.  Wingate would then build a 2-0 lead after another run in the fifth, but Coker would make it a one run game after Jarren Donato drove in T.J. Giczkowski after a single to left field in the top of the sixth.  Wingate however would respond with another run in the bottom of the sixth, followed by three runs in the seventh and four runs in the eighth.

At the plate, Coker was led by Giczkowski, Ernie Kirkwood, and Will Winslow who all connected for doubles.  Giczkowski went 1-for-3 with one run scored, while Kirkwood and Winslow finished 2-for-4 and 1-for-4, respectively.

Alex Hernandez (0-2) would be tact with the loss after going 4.1 innings, giving up five hits and two runs. 

Coker will be looking for two wins during Saturday's (Feb. 7) double-header, as they finish a three game series with the Bulldogs.  The first pitch of game number one will be thrown at 1:00 p.m., followed by game number two at 4:00.
