Coker Drops Heartbreaker to Mount Olive 11-10

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker baseball team dropped a heartbreaking 11-10 contest to No. 27 Mount Olive College on Friday afternoon in Conference Carolinas baseball action.

The Cobras (14-14, 7-6 Conf. Carolinas) rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring eight runs on five hits and two Mount Olive (16-6, 7-2 Conf. Carolinas) errors, erasing the Trojans 6-2 lead. However the 10-6 Coker lead would be short lived, as the Trojans plated five runs in the top of the ninth, securing the lead and the eventual win.

Jake Frazier (Indian Harbor Beach, Fla.) was 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored, while Brinley Griffin (Port St. John, Fla.) added some pop to the Cobras line-up going 3-for-4 with an RBI. This was Griffin's first game in over a year. He had been sidelined since the fall of 2010 due to a hip injury.

Chad Nader (Rock Hill, S.C.) and Frank Suarez (Miami, Fla.) each drove in a pair of runs for the Cobras as well.

Russ White (Marion, S.C.) (1-3) was saddled with the loss. He threw a third of an inning in relief allowing two runs on a hit with a strikeout.

The Cobras and the Trojans will complete their three-game league series on Saturday, with a doubleheader starting at noon at Coker's Tom J. New Field.
