Nolan Lifts Cobras to 8-7 Win Over Anderson

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker junior Tony Nolan (Olathe, Kansas) belted a pitch into the left-center field gap in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Cobras an 8-7 win over Anderson University on Sunday afternoon. The win gives Coker the series victory 2-1 and also gives the Cobras their third walk-off victory of the season.

Leading 6-1 heading into the sixth inning, the Cobras looked to have a win well in hand, but the Trojans had other plans. Anderson scored three runs in the sixth, one in the seventh and another two in the eighth taking a 7-6 lead heading to the ninth.

Coker was not about to give up the fight, as Fico Kondla (Miami, Fla.) led off the final stanza with a double down the left field line and then scored a batter later off an RBI single by Nathan Wilson (Milliken, Colo.) making it a 7-7 ball game. Wilson would advance to second on a failed pick-off attempt, putting the winning run in scoring position. Coach Dave Schmotzer then lifted Wilson for the speedy De'Ante Scott (Bluffton, S.C.) and Nolan sent the very next pitch deep into the left-center gap bringing home Scott for the win.

Matt Bowman (Streator, Ill.) (2-0) picked up his second win in relief with an inning and a third of work, allowing just one hit.

Kondla was 2-for-5 at the plate with a double and two RBI's, while Keith Wolf (O'Fallon, Ill.) was also 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two run scored. Nolan and Jake Frazier (Indian Harbor Beach, Fla.) also had two hits each, with Nolan driving in a run and Frazier scoring two.

The Cobras will be back at home for their 10th consecutive home game on Wednesday at 2 p.m. against UNC Pembroke.
