Hartsville, SC- Coker Baseball broke its three game losing streak with a 9-5 victory over the Benedict College Tigers on Thursday afternoon in collegiate baseball. The Cobras improved their record to 12-17-1 on the year with the win.

 

The Tigers took jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Coker would not be held down, scoring three runs of their own in the bottom of half of the inning. The Cobras added a run in the third and two more in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead. Benedict cut the lead to a run, scoring two in the top of the sixth, fortunately for Coker they added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth, giving them a 9-5 lead.

 

The Cobra’s Jayson Clarke (5-5) earned the win, coming on in the second inning, throwing two innings, allowing no runs and one hit.

 

Benedict pitcher Antonio Lucas took the loss throwing six innings, allowing six runs on eight hits, while striking out five.

 

For Coker, Nic Fletcher was 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored, while Ben Davidson was 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.

 

Benedict was led by Dawan Browning, who was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Nate Caldwell was also 2-for-4.

 

Coker takes to the field this weekend as they travel to Limestone College for a three game series starting Saturday, at 12:00 p.m.
