Sylvester Montri "Monty" Carr

Sylvester Montri “Monty” Carr graduated from Coker College in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. A 1995-1996 All Conference standout on the Men’s Basketball team, he set the NCAA Division II record with 10 steals in one game vs. Belmont Abbey. Off-court at Coker, Monty was a member of Black Inc., City-in-School, J.A.M, and the Ambassadors.

After earning a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and School Administration from Cambridge College, Monty taught science and was the Head Varsity Basketball Coach and Assistant Football Coach at Loris High School in Loris, S.C. He was named 2001-2002 Teacher-of-the-Year and he was selected to “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers” for 2002-03. Monty is now a science teacher and Head Varsity Basketball and Soccer Coach at St. James High School in Murrells Inlet, S.C., where he received the Teacher-of-the-Year award for 2004-2005. Monty is a member of the National Science Teachers association and the South Carolina Coaches Association. He is active in the Future Sharks Summer Sports Camps and the Belin united Methodist Church sports Camps in Murrells Inlet.
