Crook to Retire from Coker

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) Kaye Crook has decided to resign from her post as FAR effective July 31, 2015.

Crook, a professor emerita of mathematics, joined the Coker faculty in 1982. She retired from the classroom in 2011 and was named professor emerita. She has served in her second term as FAR since 2010.

“Kaye will truly be missed at Coker,” said Coker president Dr. Robert Wyatt. “Kaye has been a driving force behind the success of Coker athletics, on the field and in the classroom for a long time. She has been instrumental in helping our student-athletes achieve the NCAA Division II model of life in the balance.”

In addition to her duties as FAR, Crook has held numerous posts on NCAA committees, including Division II Management Council and most recently serving on the Division II Membership Committee.  She was also selected to attend the NCAA FAR Fellows Institute in 2010, where she was part of an elite group that helped refine the role of the FAR and develop tools and best practices related to the FAR position.

Coker’s vice president of athletics and athletic facilities Dr. Lynn Griffin echoed Wyatt’s comments, “We are going to miss Kaye. She has been a big part of our athletic department and the NCAA for a long time. Kaye was instrumental in the development of the athletic department as we transitioned from NAIA to the NCAA and from Conference Carolinas to the South Atlantic Conference.   Kaye has always been an advocate for the academic needs of the student-athletes and will truly be missed.”

"My 33 years at Coker have been rewarding and I am grateful for the many experiences I've had,” said Crook.  “I will always be a loyal Coker Cobra.  I now look forward to more time for travels and visits with family and friends."

Crook holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of North Carolina – Greensboro and a Master of Arts from East Carolina University.
