Cobra Spotlight

The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with them. This week we take a look at golfers Mallory Thompkins and Blake Baysden Click here for spotlights.

Men’s and Women’s Track & Field

  • This week’s meets:
    • None
  • Last week’s meets:
    • SAC Championship – women – 8 of 9, men – 8 of 9
  • Last week the men’s and women’s track & field teams took part in their first SAC Track & Field Championship. Both teams placed eighth overall. Noelia Leake placed third in the 100-meter dash to lead the women, while Dylan Bates led the way for the men with a third place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase.

Baseball

  • This week’s games:
    • None
  • Last week’s games:
    • Mars Hill (L) – 2-1
    • Newberry – 8-2 (L), 7-6 (L), 2-0 (L)
  • The Cobras wrapped up their 2015 season last week.

Men’s and Women’s Tennis

  • This week’s matches:
    • None
  • Last week’s matches:
    • Queens (L) – 5-2 – SAC Women’s Tennis Championship - Quarterfinals
  • The Coker women’s tennis team wrapped up their 2015 season last week with a 5-2 loss to Queens in the quarterfinals of the SAC Women’s Tennis Championship.

Softball

  • This week’s games:
    • Thursday at 3:00 p.m. (A) – Carson-Newman – SAC Softball Tournament
    • Friday – Sunday (A) – SAC Softball Tournament at Byerly Park in Hartsville, S.C.
  • Last week’s games:
    • Newberry – 6-3 (L) – 8 innings, 12-4 (W) – 6 innings
    • Anderson – 10-0 (L) – 5 innings, 13-0 (L) – 5 innings
    • Brevard – 6-1 (W), 6-5 (L)
  • The Coker softball team punched its ticket to the SAC Softball Tournament last week. This week the Cobras will be the No. 8 seed in the tournament and will face off against the No. 1 seed Carson-Newman on Thursday at Byerly Park. Coker is hosting the SAC Softball Tournament at Byerly Park Thursday-Sunday.

Women’s Lacrosse

  • This week’s games:
    • None
  • Last week’s games:
    • Tusculum (W) – 12-10 – SAC Quarterfinals
    • Lenoir-Rhyne (L) – 21-6 – SAC Semifinals
  • The Cobras closed out their 2015 season with a 12-10 win over Tusculum in the quarterfinals of the SAC Tournament. The women finished the year with a 9-8 record overall and a 4-4 conference record.

Men’s Lacrosse

  • This week’s games:
    • None
  • Last week’s games:
    • Lenoir-Rhyne (L) – 14-9
  • The Cobra men lost to Lenoir-Rhyne in the semifinals of the SAC Tournament. The men closed out the conference portion of their schedule with a 7-1 mark.  

Men’s Golf

  • This week’s tournaments:
    • Sunday-Tuesday at SAC Men’s Golf Championship in Charlotte, N.C.
  • Last week’s tournaments:
    • None
  • The Coker men’s golf team will travel to Charlotte, N.C. to take part in the SAC Men’s Golf Championship beginning on Sunday (Apr. 19).

Women’s Golf

  • Last week’s tournaments:
    • SAC Women’s Golf Championship – 7 of 11
  • The Cobras finished up their 2014-15 season with a seventh place finish at the SAC Women’s Golf Championship.
