Cobra Spotlight

The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with them. This week we take a look at men’s volleyball players; Jesse Day and Luke Grupe Click here for spotlights.

Men’s Volleyball

  • This week’s matches:
    • Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. (H) – North Greenville
    • Friday at 7:00 p.m. (H) – Warner
    • Saturday at 12:00 p.m. (H) – Bluefield
    • Saturday at 4:00 p.m. (H) - Warner
  • Last week’s matches:
    • None
  • After a week off, the Cobras will return to the court for their final home matches of the season this week. They will play host to North Greenville, Warner and Bluefield.

Men’s and Women’s Track & Field

  • This week’s meets:
    • Friday at Weems Baskin Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.  
  • Last week’s meets:
    • Shamrock Invitational
  • Last week the men’s and women’s track & field teams had another outstanding performance at the Shamrock Invitational. Noah Cook and Nick Mascardo finished first and second in the 1-mile run to pace the men’s team, while Talicia Murphy took home second place in the women’s long jump. This week the Cobras will travel to Rock Hill, S.C. for the Weems Baskin Invitational.  

Baseball

  • This week’s games:
    • Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. (A) – UNC Pembroke
    • Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. (H) - Voorhees
    • Friday at 3:00 p.m. (H) – Catawba
    • Saturday at 12:00 p.m. (H) – Catawba (DH)
  • Last week’s games:
    • Claflin (W) – 9-6
    • Carson-Newman – 15-7 (L), 6-3 (L), 11-7 (W)
  • The Cobras will travel to UNC Pembroke to start the week, but they will then close out the week with four straight home games, including a three-game SAC series against Catawba on Friday and Saturday.  

Men’s and Women’s Tennis

  • This week’s matches:
    • Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. (A) – Lenoir-Rhyne
    • Friday at 2:00 p.m. (A) – Mars Hill
    • Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (A) – Tusculum
  • Last week’s matches:
    • Lincoln Memorial – 5-4 (W) – women, 5-4 (L) – men
    • Catawba – 5-4 (W) – women, 5-4 (L) – men
    • Brevard – 7-2 (W) – women, 6-3 (W) – men
  • The Coker women’s tennis team extended its winning streak to four matches with three straight victories last week. This week the Cobras will hit the road for three SAC matches.  

Softball

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. (H) – Queens (DH)
    • Thursday at 2:00 p.m. (A) – Belmont Abbey (DH)
    • Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (A) – Mars Hill (DH)
  • Last week’s games:
    • Carson-Newman – 3-0 (W), 4-1 (L)
    • Catawba – 5-3 (W), 9-1 (W)
    • Lincoln Memorial – 3-0 (W), 8-4 (L)
  • The Coker softball team opened SAC play last week by going 4-2, including a sweep of Catawba. This week they will play host to Queens and then hit the road to Belmont Abbey and to Mars Hill.

Women’s Lacrosse

  • This week’s games:
    • Monday at 3:00 p.m. (H) – Colorado State-Pueblo
    • Thursday at 3:00 p.m. (H) – Erskine
    • Saturday at 3:00 p.m. (A) – Catawba
  • Last week’s games:
    • Wingate (L) – 13-12
  • The Cobras will play host to Colorado State-Pueblo and Erskine this week before heading out on the road to Catawba on Saturday. 

Men’s Lacrosse

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. (A) – Wingate
    • Saturday at 7:00 p.m. (A) – Catawba
  • Last week’s games:
    • North Greenville (W) – 15-7
  • The Coker men’s lacrosse team picked up a non-conference win over North Greenville last week to improve to 5-3 on the year. This week the Cobras will hit the road for two crucial SAC games. Wednesday they will take on Wingate and Saturday they will play Catawba.

Men’s Golf

  • This week’s tournaments:
    • Monday-Tuesday at Bearcat Golf Classic in Greenwood, S.C.  
  • Last week’s tournaments:
    • Hargett Memorial Invitational – 6 of 15
  • The Coker men’s golf team took home sixth place at the Hargett Memorial Invitational last week after firing a season low team score of 283 (-5) during the final round of the tournament. This week the Cobras will head to Greenwood, S.C. to take part in the Bearcat Golf Classic.

Women’s Golf

  • This week’s tournaments:
    • Monday-Tuesday at Wingate Women’s Invitational in Charlotte, N.C.

  • This week the Coker women’s golf team will head to Charlotte, N.C. to take part in the Wingate Women’s Invitational.
