Cobra Spotlight

The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with them. Wrestling

  • This week’s matches:

  • Last week’s matches:
    • NCAA Division II National Championship
  • Travis Laxton’s season came to an end last week after going 1-2 at the NCAA Division II National Championship. Laxton became the second Cobra in two years to represent Coker at the national championship.

Men’s Volleyball

  • This week’s matches:
    • None
  • Last week’s matches:
    • King (L) – 3-2
    • Charleston (W) – 3-0
    • Belmont Abbey (L) – 3-2
  • The Cobras picked up a 3-0 win over the University of Charleston and have now won four of their last seven matches. They will get a week off this week and then return home to face North Greenville on March 24.

Men’s and Women’s Track & Field

  • This week’s meets:
    • Thursday at Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
  • Last week’s meets:
    • Coastal Carolina Invitational
  • Last week the men’s and women’s track & field teams continued to their strong performances at the Coastal Carolina Invitational. The women had a total of 10 top 25 finishes during the two-day event, while the men had 16 top 25 finishes. This week the Cobras will return to Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach for the Shamrock Invitational on Thursday.

Baseball

  • This week’s games:
    • Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. (H) – Claflin
    • Friday at 2:00 p.m. (A) – Carson-Newman
    • Saturday at 12:00 p.m. (A) – Carson-Newman (DH)
  • Last week’s games:
    • Mercyhurst (L) – 7-4
    • UNC Pembroke (L) – 13-8
    • Lenoir-Rhyne – 16-8 (L), 2-1 (W), 12-1 (L)
  • The Cobras will be back in action this week with a home game against Claflin on Tuesday and a three-game SAC series at Carson-Newman on Friday and Saturday.

Men’s and Women’s Tennis

  • This week’s matches:
    • Monday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – Lincoln Memorial
    • Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. (A) – Catawba
    • Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – Brevard
    • Sunday at 2:00 p.m. (H) – Queens  
  • Last week’s matches:
    • Florida Tech – 9-0 (L) – women, 8-1 (L) – men
    • Georgia College – 5-0 (L) – women, 67-2 (W) – men
    • West Liberty – 6-3 (W) – women
  • The Coker tennis teams will play host to a trio of South Atlantic Conference matches beginning with Lincoln Memorial on Monday. They will then play host to Brevard on Saturday and Queens on Sunday.

Softball

  • This week’s games:
    • Monday at 12:00 p.m. (H) – Carson-Newman (DH)
    • Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. (A) – Catawba (DH)
    • Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – Lincoln Memorial (DH)
  • Last week’s games:
    • Johnson C. Smith – 6-0 (W), 12-3 (W)
    • Bloomsburg – 4-0 (L), 8-0 (L)
  • The Coker softball team went 2-2 last week with a sweep of Johnson C. Smith. This week they will open up SAC play by hosting Carson-Newman on Monday, traveling to Catawba on Tuesday and then they will return home to take on Lincoln Memorial on Saturday.  

Women’s Lacrosse

  • This week’s games:
    • Saturday at 4:00 p.m. (A) – Wingate
  • Last week’s games:
    • Rollins (L) – 18-5
    • Florida Tech (L) – 19-5
  • The Cobras will play just one game this week when they travel to Wingate for a SAC matchup on Saturday.

Men’s Lacrosse

  • This week’s games:
    • Saturday at 7:00 p.m. (A) – North Greenville
  • Last week’s games:
    • Lynn (W) – 11-10 – OT
    • Lenoir-Rhyne (W) – 12-11
  • The Coker men’s lacrosse team moved to 3-1 in SAC play with a 12-11 come from behind victory over Lenoir-Rhyne last week.  This week the Cobras will hit the road to North Greenville for a non-conference game on Saturday.

Men’s Golf

  • This week’s tournaments:
    • Monday -Tuesday at Hargett Memorial Invitational in Charlotte, N.C.

  • The Coker men’s golf team returns to the links this week when they travel to Charlotte, N.C. for the Hargett Memorial Invitational.  Live video from the 18th hole will be available during both days of the tournament at www.wingatebulldogs.com/live
