The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with them. Wrestling

  • This week’s matches:
    • Saturday at 9:00 a.m. (A) – Newberry Open
    • Sunday at 10:00 a.m. (A) – King Duals
  • Last week’s matches:
    • Anderson (W) – 28-17
  • The Cobras picked up their ninth dual match victory last week with a 28-17 win over Anderson. This week the wrestlers will hit the road to Newberry College for the Newberry Open on Saturday. Then they will travel to Bristol, Tenn. for the King University Duals on Sunday.

Women’s Basketball

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. – (H) – Lenoir-Rhyne
    • Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (H) – Mars Hill
  • Last week’s games:
    • Wingate (L) – 68-63
    • Lincoln Memorial (W) – 58-55
  • Last week the Cobra women went 1-1, completing a season sweep of Lincoln Memorial with a 58-55 win. This week they will play host to two SAC opponents, Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday and Mars Hill on Saturday.  Currently, the women are in a tie for fifth place in the SAC standings at 8-6. They are just three games back from first place.

Men’s Basketball

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. – (H) – Lenoir-Rhyne
    • Saturday at 4:00 p.m. (H) – Mars Hill
  • Last week’s games:
    • Wingate (W) – 75-68
    • Lincoln Memorial (L) – 95-81
  • The Cobras went 1-1 last week with a 75-68 win over Wingate. This week they will play host to Lenoir-Rhyne and Mars Hill in a pair of SAC games. Currently, the Cobras are tie for seventh place in the SAC standings, but they are just three games out of second place.

Men’s Volleyball

  • This week’s matches:
    • Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. (A) – Mount Olive
    • Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (A) – Belmont Abbey
  • Last week’s matches:
    • Limestone (L) – 3-0
    • McKendree (W) – 3-2
    • Quincy (W) – 3-1
    • Lindenwood (L) – 3-0
  • The Cobra men’s volleyball team went 2-2 last week, including winning two of three matches at the Lindenwood Classic. This week the men will take on two former Conference Carolinas foes in Mount Olive and Belmont Abbey.

Baseball

  • This week’s games:
    • Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. (H) – St. Augustine’s
    • Friday at 6:00 p.m. (A) – Wingate
    • Saturday at 1:00 (A) – Wingate (DH)
  • Last week’s games:
    • Chowan – 7-1 (L), 12-3 (W), 6-2 (W)
  • The baseball team won their first series of the year taking two of three from Chowan last week. This week they will host the Falcons of St. Augustine’s on Tuesday, and then they will hit the road for their first SAC series of the year against Wingate University on Friday and Saturday.

Men’s & Women’s Tennis

  • This week’s matches:
    • Saturday at 9:30 a.m. (A) – Winthrop – men only
  • Last week’s matches:
    • Lander – 9-0 (L) – women, 9-0 (L) - men
    • Coastal Carolina – 7-0 (L) - women
  • The men’s tennis team will take the court against Division I Winthrop University this week, while the women will have a week off.

Women’s Golf

  • This week’s tournaments:
    • None
  • Last week’s tournaments:
    • Tusculum/Kiawah Invitational – 14 of 18
  • The Coker women opened up their spring season with a 14th place finish at the Tusculum/Kiawah Invitational. Taylor Demby led the way for the Cobras with a top 10 finish.

Softball

  • This week’s games:
    • Hampton Jordan Classic – Friday – Saturday @ Orangeburg, S.C.
      • Friday at 3:00 p.m. – USC Aiken
      • Friday at 5:00 p.m. – Clark Atlanta
      • Saturday at 9:00 a.m. – South Carolina St.

      • Saturday at 3:00 p.m. – St. Augustine’s

  • The softball team will begin its season with a busy week that includes seven games in three days. The Cobras will start by playing five games at the Hampton Jordan Classic in Orangeburg, S.C. and then close out the week with a double-header at Lander.

Men’s Lacrosse

  • The Coker men’s lacrosse team will play the first of five straight home games to begin the 2014 season this week. They will host Shorter University on Saturday at Byerly Park.
