Cobra Spotlight

The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with them. Wrestling

  • This week’s matches:
    • Saturday at 8: 00 a.m. (A) - NCAA Regional hosted by UNC Pembroke
  • Last week’s matches:
    • None
  • This week the wrestlers will head to UNC Pembroke for the NCAA Division II Super Region Two tournament. The top four wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship March 14-15 in St. Louis, Mo.

Women’s Basketball

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. (H) – Lenoir-Rhyne – First Responders Night
    • Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (H) – Tusculum - Homecoming
  • Last week’s games:
    • Wingate (L) – 60-51
    • Anderson (L) – 67-63
  • The Coker women will take the court for their final regular season games of the season this week. On Wednesday they will host Lenoir-Rhyne and on Saturday they will take on Tusculum. Wednesday’s game will be First Responders Night, with first-response personnel such as fire, police, and emergency medical service workers, and their families, receiving free admission to both the men’s and women’s basketball games.  Saturday’s game will be Coker’s Homecoming game.

  • The Cobra men will take the court for their final regular season games of the season this week. On Wednesday they will host Lenoir-Rhyne and on Saturday they welcome Tusculum to town. Men’s Volleyball

    • Sacred Heart (L) – 3-0
  • The Cobras will conclude their four-match road trip by traveling to Emmanuel College in Georgia this week.  
 

Men’s and Women’s Track & Field

  • This week’s meets:

  • Last week’s meets:
    • UCS Invitational
  • Last week the men’s and women’s track & field teams traveled to Winston-Salem, N.C. to compete in the UCS Invitational. Brandon Gambrell led the way for the men with a pair of top 10 finishes in the high jump and long jump, while Da’Sha Jobes placed sixth in the long jump for the women.

Baseball

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. (H) – Limestone
    • Friday at 2:00 p.m. (A) – Mars Hill
    • Saturday at 12:00 p.m. (A) – Mars Hill (DH)
  • Last week’s games:
    • #5 Seton Hill – 11-5 (L), 8-7 (W), 12-8 (L)
  • The Cobra baseball team picked up an 8-7 extra innings victory over No. 5 Seton Hill last week to give head coach Dave Schmotzer his 700th career victory. This week the Cobras will take on Limestone at home on Wednesday and then travel to Mars Hill for a three-game SAC series on Friday and Saturday.

Men’s and Women’s Tennis

  • This week’s matches:
    • Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. (H) – Wingate
    • Thursday at 2:00 p.m. (H) – Newberry
    • Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (A) – Lenoir-Rhyne
  • Last week’s matches:
    • GRU Augusta – 8-2 (L) – women, 9-0 (L) – men
  • The Coker tennis teams will play host to a pair of SAC opponents this week; Wingate and Newberry. Then they hit the road for a third SAC match on Saturday at Lenoir-Rhyne.

Softball

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – St. Andrews (DH)
    • Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – Limestone (DH)
    • Sunday at 12:00 p.m. (H) – West Virginia Tech (DH)
  • Last week’s games:
    • Columbia – 4-0 (W), 2-1 (L)
  • The Coker softball team went 1-1 last week. This week they will take the field for six home games beginning on Wednesday against St. Andrews. Then they will host Limestone on Saturday and West Virginia Tech on Sunday.   

Women’s Lacrosse

  • This week’s games:
    • Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (A) – Queens
  • Last week’s games:
    • Newberry (W) – 20-12
  • The Coker women’s lacrosse team moved to 2-1 on the year with a dominating 20-12 win over Newberry in SAC women’s lacrosse action last week. This week the Cobras will travel to Queens for a SAC contest.  

Men’s Lacrosse

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. (A) – Mount Olive
    • Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (A) – Pfeiffer
  • Last week’s games:
    • Queens (L) – 11-8
    • Mars Hill (W) – 12-11
  • The Coker men’s lacrosse team went 1-1 last week with a 12-11 win over Mars Hill in SAC action. This week they will hit the road for a pair of non-conference games at Mount Olive Wednesday and at Pfeiffer on Saturday.

Men’s Golf

  • This week’s tournaments:
    • Monday-Tuesday at Pirate Invitational in Savannah, Ga.
  • Last week’s tournaments:
    • Newberry Invitational – 13 of 18
  • The Coker men's golf team opened their spring season with a top 15 finish at the Newberry Invitational last week. This week the Cobras will travel to Savannah, Ga. to take part in the Pirate Invitational.

Women’s Golf

  • This week’s tournaments:
    • Monday-Tuesday at Converse Women’s Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C.
  • Last week’s tournaments:
    • None
  • The Coker College women's golf team will make their 2015 debut this week as they travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to compete in the Converse Women's Invitational hosted by the Converse College Valkyries.
