Cobra Spotlight

The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with them. Wrestling

  • This week’s matches:
    • Sunday at 2:00 a.m. (A) – George Mason
  • Last week’s matches:
    • Ohio Valley (W) – 28-17
    • King (L) – 24-21
  • The Cobras picked split their two matches at the King Duals last week, picking up a win over Ohio Valley and falling just short against King. This week they will hit the road to Fairfax, Va. for their final dual match of the season before the NCAA Regional. Coker will take on Division I George Mason on Sunday.

Women’s Basketball

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. – (A) – Catawba
    • Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (A) – Brevard
  • Last week’s games:
    • Lenoir-Rhyne (L) – 69-60
    • Mars Hill (L) – 71-65
  • The women will hit the road this week for a pair of SAC road games. The first on Wednesday at Catawba and the second on Saturday at Brevard.

Men’s Basketball

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. – (A) – Catawba
    • Saturday at 4:00 p.m. (A) – Brevard
  • Last week’s games:
    • Lenoir-Rhyne (L) – 67-58
    • Mars Hill (W) – 97-90
  • The Cobras went 1-1 last week with a 97-90 win over Mars Hill, completing the two-game season sweep of the Lions. Senior Julian Nelson scored 30 plus points in both games last week, the third time he has scored 30 or more points in the last five games. This week, the men will take to the road for two SAC contests at Catawba and at Brevard.

Men’s Volleyball

  • This week’s matches:
    • Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. (H) – Barton
    • Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (A) – Lees-McRae
  • Last week’s matches:
    • Mount Olive (L) – 3-0
    • Belmont Abbey (L) – 3-0
  • The Cobra men’s volleyball team will take on two former Conference Carolinas foes this week. The first on Wednesday at home against Barton, followed by a road match on Saturday at Lees-McRae.  

Baseball

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. (H) – Claflin
    • Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (A) – Limestone
    • Sunday at 2:00 (H) – Limestone
  • Last week’s games:
    • Wingate – 10-1 (L), 3-1 (W), 6-5 (L)
  • The baseball team had a rough week, going just 1-2 last week. This week they will take on Claflin on Wednesday, and Limestone on Saturday and Sunday.

Men’s & Women’s Tennis

  • This week’s matches:
    • Friday at 12:00 p.m. (A) – GRU Augusta
    • Saturday at 11:00 a.m. (A) – USC Aiken
  • Last week’s matches:
    • Winthrop – 4-0 (L) - men
  • The Coker men and women will hit the road for a pair of non-conference matches at GRU Augusta and USC Aiken on Friday and Saturday this week.  

Men’s Golf

  • This week’s tournaments:
    • Spring Kick-Off Intercollegiate at Fleming Island, Fla. – Feb. 10-11
  • Last week’s tournaments:
    • None
  • The Coker men will open the spring portion of their schedule this week when they travel to Fleming Island, Fla. for the Spring Kick-Off Intercollegiate. The men are coming off a fall season that saw them finish all four events in the top 10.

Softball

  • This week’s games:
    • Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (A) – St. Andrews (DH)
    • Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – Columbia (DH)
  • Last week’s games:
    • USC Aiken – 8-0 (L)
    • Clark Atlanta – 13-2 (W)
    • St. Augustine’s – 12-8 (W)
    • Claflin – 5-2 (W)
    • Ohio Valley – 10-1 (W)
    • Lander – 7-1 (L), 1-0 (L)
  • The softball team opened the 2014 season by going 4-3 in its opening weekend. This week the Cobras will travel to St. Andrews on Saturday and then they will host Columbia College in their 2014 home opener on Sunday.

Men’s Lacrosse

  • This week’s games:
    • Saturday at 4:00 p.m. (H) – Florida Tech
  • Last week’s games:
    • Shorter (W) – 22-15
  • The Coker men’s lacrosse team defeated Shorter University for the third straight year last week, 22-15. Andy Campos tied a single game record for points with 11, scoring six goals with five assists in the game. This week the Cobras will play host to Florida Tech on Saturday.

Women’s Lacrosse

  • This week’s games:
    • Thursday at 6:00 p.m. (H) - Furman
    • Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – Erskine
  • Last week’s games:
    • None
  • The Coker women’s lacrosse team will open play in its inaugural season with two games this week. The first ever women’s lacrosse game will be Thursday night against Division I Furman University, followed by a game on Saturday at home against Erskine.
