HARTSVILLE, S.C. – On Monday, Jan. 16, more than 400 Coker College student-athletes volunteered to go out into the Hartsville community and partake in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

The Cobras participated in 22 community service projects throughout the Pee Dee Region. These projects ranged from removing invasive plants throughout Kalmia Gardens, to playing games with senior residents at the Carriage House and cleaning school grounds at Washington St. Elementary.

Coker Athletics has participated in the Day of Service for five years and Coker College Vice President of Athletics and Facilities, Dr. Lynn Griffin, could not be more pleased.

"The Martin Luther King Day of Service has become one of our favorite service initiatives," said Griffin. "When we started this initiative on campus it was to honor Dr. King, but five years later it has become something the student-athletes look forward to. I am proud of them all for their persistent effort to make a positive impact within our community."
