HARTSVILLE, S.C. – 61 Coker College student-athletes were named 2015-16 Division 2 Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Award winners, the association announced today.

A total of 156 institutions and a record number of student-athletes (8,072) are being recognized for the 2015-16 Academic Achievement Awards.

In order for a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, the athletics director of the Division II institution must be a current dues paying member of the D2 ADA.

For a student-athlete to qualify for the award they must:

• Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
• Have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work
• Have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year

"Each year we have increased the number of student-athletes honored for their academic achievements and that is a direct reflection of the commitment our professors and student-athletes are putting into their work in the classroom," said vice president of athletics and athletic facilities Dr. Lynn Griffin.

Coker was one of three South Atlantic Conference institutions to earn the honor, along with Wingate University and Newberry College.
