Coker Athletics Announces Inaugural FANG Awards Nominees

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The final nominees for the inaugural FANG Awards have been released, the Associate Athletic Director of External Operations, Christian Stryker, announced today. The FANG Awards will take place in the main gymnasium of the DeLoach Center on Monday, May 4 at 7 p.m.

The nominees and winners of the 11 FANG awards up for grabs were determined by a combination of coach and administrator voting over a two-week period.

Of the 51 possible nominations, five teams garnered more than five; with women’s lacrosse leading the way with nine, while men’s lacrosse, wrestling, softball and men’s basketball all registered five nominations.

Headlining the awards are the C.G. Timberlake Male and Female Athlete of the Year. The finalists for the male award are Dylan Marks (men’s lacrosse), Travis Laxton (wrestling) and Artur Cabral (men’s volleyball). On the female side, the finalists are reigning athlete of the year, Taylor Demby (women’s golf), Marabeth Durden (women’s lacrosse) and Tanesha Stenson (women’s basketball).

The FANG Awards will be broadcast on the Coker Sports Network. Coverage of the festivities start at 6:15 p.m. with a preshow hosted by Sharod Williams with reporters Julia Rafalowski and Ali Nelson before the main show begins at 7 p.m. Fans can watch for free at www.cokercobras.com.
