D2ADA Honors Coker Student-Athletes

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Division 2 Athletics Directors Association (D2ADA) announced the 2013-14 recipients of the D2ADA Academic Achievement Awards today. The Academic Achievement Awards is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level. Coker College had 46 student-athletes honored with an award.

“To have 46 of our student-athletes honored for an academic achievement is outstanding,” said vice president of athletics and facilities Lynn Griffin. “Last year we had 37 honored with this award, and to have that number increase to 46 this year shows the continued commitment our student-athletes have to succeeding in the classroom. I am very proud of all of the accomplishments of these fine student-athletes.”

In order for a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, the athletics director of the Division II institution must be a current dues paying member of the D2ADA. Also, the student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale; have attended a minimum of two years of college level work; and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.

A total of 158 institutions and a record number of student-athletes (7,074) were recognized for the 2013-14 Academic Achievement Awards.

Coker was one of four schools in the South Atlantic Conference to have student-athletes recognized. The others were Newberry College, Queens University of Charlotte and Wingate University.
